The product already sent emails, they just weren't designed. Default Gmail rendering, a tiny wordmark, walls of grey text, raw staging URLs pasted inline, and a different footer nearly every time. These emails were quietly eroding trust at exactly the moments that mattered most.
Before designing anything, I plotted every email onto the real customer journey, from enter details through generation, the wait, payment, and download. Each touchpoint got a marker and a written rationale: what the user feels here, why an email belongs, and what it needs to say.
We knew we can't rely on modern CSS, custom fonts are unsafe, and the same code renders differently in a dozen clients. Instead of designing freely and hitting the walls at build time, I designed the system around the walls, one component kit, one set of email-safe tokens, one voice.
